assault rifle vs assault weapon

I know this distinction is already well known to those who come to this site, but I've seen these two terms confused quite a bit lately even on patriot sites, so I think it's good to explain the difference clearly every so often. The confusion is commonly used by the enemy in his attempts to disarm the American people, and truth is the nemesis of anti-gun propaganda. So here is my humble offering to the effort to expose this lie by confusion:

Assault rifle is a legitimate term that is commonly used to refer to what used to be (and maybe it still is) called a battle rifle, meaning the standard rifle used by soldiers. Part of the definition is that the assault rifle is capable of full auto, which is not legal for civilians. Assault weapon is a slogan and a lie; there is no such class of firearms.

Even now after the slogan has been used by liars for decades, it is still so ambiguous it has no real meaning. It might be any semi-automatic (and is, when they want big numbers for their propaganda), or it might be just a few very specific models that look especially scary to ignorant fools (which is what it means when anti-gun bigots are trying to claim that only a very few guns will be outlawed), or it might be anything in between, or something else.

Liars love ambiguity, and that's why anti-gun bigots love this slogan. And those who support freedom love truth, because the truth is the nemesis of anti-gun propaganda. So it is to our benefit to get the truth out about this confusion of terms.
