I have my eye on a early gen S40, I think it's almost certainly a gen 1 with the manual cross bar safety, no rail, no pin under the rear site. I'm not an expert on the models so please educate me. One benefit, I think (educate me) is that my M40 mags should work in the S40 (which only has 1 mag).
It's only $250, but in very rough cosmetic shape and looks to never have been cleaned. I have not detailed stripped it nor fired it. I will probably tear it down and look at the guts. $250 is not much, I know, for a great gun. But in summer of 2018, there are a lot of amazing gun deals and we can only get so many, right?! And this is a "want," and not a "need" as I have other guns in the compact duty carry role.
Still, if this is a great bargain for a great gun, I'll snap it up. My question is, what are the issues with the early gen models? I'm aware of extractor possible issues. Are those common, or just case-by-case? And, were there any other early bugs that needed to be worked out?
Anything one really needs to look carefully at before buying? Even at the low price tag of $250, I'm not sure this is really that good of a bargain. Gun is several generations old, probably 20+ years old, and looks rough, and only has 1 mag... Thoughts?
