Any experience with the Remington model four?

I was in my favorite honey-hole a couple of days ago, and saw a Remington model four on the rack. The rails looked good and sharp, a functions test was positive, all controls worked as they should.

The 742 in 30-06 was the gun I used to hunt deer with my Dad, never saw that rifle after he and mom split up. If it is a good model rifle, I would like to get something to remind me of those times.

I am not looking for a battle rifle, I have a few of those, I am looking for a good rifle chambered in 30-06 that will make meat, be accurate, and will give me a rifle to hunt with in case of another ammo panic. During the last one,308 was impossible to find, but '06 was all over.

I have heard good, and I have heard Jam-o-Matic. I never had the 742 jam on me, for what that is worth, but to be fair I probably fired it less than a hundred times, too.

Anyone have experience with one? by the serial# this one was made in 81, should that matter?
