The Unrealistic Mentality of the Modern Survivalist

Thanks for linking this article, it was a good perspective to read.

I think that the "average" American survivalist is hard to define, but there are a lot of survivalists who are only prepared for specific cataclysmic events, who are not well prepared for this scenario. There are however a lot who are prepared for a wide range of scenarios, and have thought about how to deal with these types of situations.

I found the discussion on the importance of connections with neighbours particularly interesting, in the Rwanda conflict there was apparently a lot of violence that did not fit the "ethnic violence" explanation - what was actually happening was that those who had profited at the expense of their neighbours (in this case acquiring farms which were necessary for subsistence survival) were targeted and killed. Something to think about if you are worried about this sort of conflict.

The scenario outlined here actually fits into the scenario I am mostly prepping for, but brings home how much crime and violence this might bring, which I am probably underprepared for.
