Ubuntu vs. Mint (Linux)?

Mint is Ubuntu without the horrible Unity Desktop, but with multimedia stuff such as Flash already installed. Aside from the Flashplayer, a few multimedia codecs, and default dektop environments and themes, they are the same thing, and Mint uses Ubuntu's APT repositories.

You really won't gain anything by replacing your current Ubuntu install with a Mint install.

You might want to give Debian 8/Jessie, (current stable release) a shot. you will experience a Linux distro that is similar in operation to Ubuntu, but will be lighter on resources, and perhaps be more stable as well. That being said, enabling the 'non-free' multimedia repositories To install Flashplayer, other codecs and installing non-free Nvidia and AMD/ATI Gfx kernel modules can be a bit tricky, but are doable if you research the Debian support forums for doing so.
