BOV Manual or Auto

Which do you think is better as a BOV, an automatic or a manual vehicle?

Manual pros:
-much harder to immobilize
-easier to get unstuck (in my opinion)
-fewer people can drive them, so less likely to be stolen
-emp proof
-more fuel efficient
-can be started without battery

Manual cons:
-much harder to drive when injured
-can stall out much more easily
-risk of over-rev in a frantic situation

Automatic pros:
-only require one leg and one arm
-can be driven by a child in an emergency
-will not stall unless seriously hit

Automatic cons
-need battery to start
-usually computer controlled
-immobilized if fluid leaks or wires broken
-almost impossible to field repair
-more likely to immobilize if overheated (manual gearbox can overheat, but will still usually drive with chipped teeth/no fluid)

Let me know if there is anything I missed. I lean heavily towards manual (the whole easily immobilized thing is the big one for me), and I currently drive a 1999 manual cummins 1 ton, but I recently injured my left hand and have trouble driving it now.

Also, the cheap automatic GM cars seem to do better than their manual equivalents in the demolition derbies around here, after a few quick mods to protect the weak tranny cooler lines.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
