I also use an online bank, CapitalOne360 (used to be ING Direct), and I've been very pleased with that - you can deposit checks online or even with their app for your phone, or you can mail them in.
One of the biggest things I liked about them was no overdraft fee. You have $25 overdraft protection automatically, and can apply (for free) to have it increased based off your credit. They charge like 11% interest on the overdraft. This is handy if you are running close, you don't have to worry about going over a few bucks. One time, when money was real tight and I miscalculated something, I ended up being negative $125 for nearly two weeks, until my paycheck was deposited. I got charged less than a $1 for interest, whereas at a bank (even my local Credit union), I would have been charged a $30 overdraft fee multiple times.
If you don't want to feel like a criminal, I can't UNRECOMMEND Woodforrest National Bank enough. Years ago I would buy computer software that was free after the rebates. At my normal bank I would often go in with $500 or more in rebate checks. I just deposited them to my account - rarely ever got cash back. I opened up an account at Woodforest, because they just opened up in the Walmart, and was more convenient, plus they were open late. I went in one day to deposit a bunch of rebate checks... lady treated me like a criminal. Keep in mind, I was depositing them. I wasn't asking for money back. The lady insisted on calling the bank for each check to verify that the checks were legit, but of course, since it was after 5, those banks were closed. She gave me my checks back and told me I'd have to come back in the morning. I closed my account on the spot.
Recommend a decent bank
