DIY Tilt Solar Panel Ground Mount

Well I had some time today to play constructor. I built a tilt ground mount for my solar panels. I got the mount built and the panels mounted today. Tomorrow I will wire the panels into a disconnect/combiner box I am making. The mount has adjustments for summer, fall/spring, and winter. I got the idea for this type of the mount form the Youtube channel Pure Living for Life. I seen his and liked the way it works. So far I have just under $30 into just the mount. I had some of the wood and had to buy some wood and hinges.

It is pretty solid right now. I used a post hole digger to dig the holes and then used some ¾” crushed stone (got this from the drive way ) to pack into the holes to about 4 inches from the top. Then I put a little dirt back in and put the grass back in place.

The fourth photo shows the winter location and the sixth photo shows the summer location for the panels. The fall/spring location would be between these two locations. The third photo shows how it is hinged.

The panels are hinged so that the panels are a little bottom heavy. They can be stood straight up and down if bad storms with hail are going to pass through the area. Hopefully the hail will glance off the panels (in the up and down position) instead of hitting them almost straight on. The other concern then would be strong winds with the hail.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
