Don't know if I am posting this in the right place or not because I don't know what kind of a disaster I'm preparing for yet. I bought a 5250 running watt generator from a neighbor and I am looking at outdoor rated extension cords. I am totally confused about the amperage rating on extension cords. One cord with 10 gauge wiring will be rated at 30 amp and will be the same length as another that has the same sized wire and is only rated at 20 amp. I have always gone by the old recommendations that 10 gauge was for 30 amp and 12 gauge is for 20 amp. But that doesn't seem to hold true for extension cords? Any experts out there? |
