Help me decide

I'm trading an optic locally worth around $400+. I'd like to sell it outright but no takers. I have two trade offers and I can't decide. Maybe you can help with experience or input.

I don't "need" either weapon and have others that fill these rolls quite nicely. These would be purely to put in the safe or offer as loaners or trade items later.

Here are the two offers:

Option 1
* Ruger American in near new condition, .270, Simmons whitetail classic 6.5x20x50mm scope w/scope covers and rings. Looks like a nice entry level rifle and .270 is a good caliber.

I have an assortment of hunting rifles including a nicer .270. But this is a nice light weight knock around rifle if needed, or a loaner or trainer for a novice shooter.

Value on the rifle new is around $450, Scope is around $250 new, and appears to be a decent scope. So it's about a $700 new package. Seller is taking a huge loss and only asking $350, so I could just outright buy it... but a straight trade is where it's likely at.

But in rifles, this is clearly an entry level rifle with mixed reviews. Still quite useful of course, and the scope might find a home on a nicer rifle. I'm always looking for better glass. This used package value is probably in the $500+ range, but since it looks near new I'd even say $600.

Option 2
* Used Springfield XDs 9x19, cera-coated in a nice subdued camo pattern, with 3 mags, holster, etc. I see new these are sub-$400 now, and Springy has a deal for a new one there's a rebate for 4 free mags.

Also right now, the Shields are $220 after rebate, so closer to $280 for me after shipping, taxes, transfers...

In that size pistol, I have two Walther PPS 9mm, a Kahr 9mm, and an assortment of other guns that fill the role of single stack.

Also, in that size, there's the Shield and the XDs. Having watched a ton of reviews, the XDs either ties the Shield and PPS or comes in behind or among them. Sometimes ahead. Regardless, the rebated price of the new XDs (with mags) or the Shield means I could get one in the $300 range.

As I'm done typing this, it seems clear that I should just hold out for cash... but if I were to pick one of these weapons listed (Ruger or XDs), can you make a compelling argument for either? Any experience with either?
