It would be a disaster if everyone prepared

What if everyone took on the mindset that they needed a self sufficient home base (water, animals, small farm)? We know from experience on here that it takes years to set up a good "bunker" or BOL.

There would be no time left for people to really specialize. Specialization is the ruin of society if things collapse but it is what keeps the USA as the most powerful nation in the world. Specialization is why we have radar, satellites, open heart surgery where you are walking around the next day.

We laugh at the sheep when we think how they are going to fare if society collapses and they are stuck in their condo in the city but if we did not have the software engineer who doesn't know how to filter water or build a wood shed, the country would be left behind by the world.

Enrico Fermi perhaps did not know how to properly kill and dress a deer but he knew his fission bomb would generate an EMP and had cables and equipment double shielded BEFORE the first nuclear bomb had ever been tested. Without those type of people putting in 80 hours a week specializing in a field which really has no utility after SHTF we would all be speaking German.

Just something to think about.
