Preppers cautiously "unmasking" themselves

There may be a significant amount of us out there gang. My son and I are beginning the buildout of a 3 year development program on a 60 acre patch deep in the east Texas piney forest. The nearest house is a mile as the crow flies. The nearest house on the logging road to our place is 3 miles. Remote is an understatement.

So, first order of business is to drill a deep 200' water well. We have power to the property, but our main focus is to make this place sustainable without grid power. So my son met the driller today and told him we want the well drilled and cased but we will decide later what type of pump we will install. Our main concern is grid down conditions for extended time, but we dont tell people that. We tell people we are building a remote hunting camp with basic creature comforts,

My son says that the well driller started to act a little off with descriptions of how busy his work had been lately when finally he blurted out "are ya'll developing a place to go if things get out of hand in the cities?" My son hesitantly said yes. The driller says OK, lets talk honestly. He is a FULL BORE prepper. Further he says that 25% of his water well work explosion today is people from Dallas and Houston, (Both 150 miles from this area) building retreats out in the country.

From there he tells Chris about his own efforts to fully prep his country place. Chris spent 2 hours with him talking about grid down problems and solutions. They were trading tips on almost all aspects of being ready for the cities to slip into chaos. According to my son, it was like listening to me. One of his last statements was, people dont know exactly what is coming, but they sense it will be bad and like being in a bar before a brawl, they are looking for the exit door.

There are more of us than you think. I was a little surprised by the number of people the drillers described doing the same thing. So keep your ear to the ground, their may be alot more of us ready for SHTF than we think.

Oh and we will be using a Brumby pump into 1000 gal above ground storage tank powered by an above ground compressor. No down hole electronics for us. From the storage tank will will go thru a little pressure pump then a whole house filtration system before it goes to the "camp" building. The driller said it was an excellent approach and will also put a side shaft so a hand pump can be installed.

Just thought I would share that with ya'll
