I wanted to open the floor, so people could share what they can fit in a cache. I take photos mainly for me, but at the same time, it could be helpful to others.
Please note that I am still a learner when it comes to prepping. The items I have choosen are not necessarily recommended to store, they are more to show an example of what can fit.
This thread is not too much about what to store, but rather, what can fit.
Drum 60L / 15gal
Dimensions : Height 625mm (2"1') Diameter 398mm (15inch)
Neck Diameter : 330mm (13inches)
Max length of long items: 600mm (2ft)
Fits:
- my BOB. (got a little stuck on the way out).
- 4 bottles of water.
- 18 cans of food.
(the BOB is mainly a stock one I brought, then added things to. Not gonna list everything but it does have 2 bivvy bags in it, tools and a cooker. Its best if you do not buy a stock bag, but rather build your own.. )
Important thing to note, is that the barrel is 2ft (60cm) deep. You need a tent that has poles that are under 2ft when folded. My rubbish tent does fit (barely). I plan to buy a better one, and a quality tent, may or may not fit.
Fits:
- 2 person tent
- 2 bivy bags
- a sleeping bag for a child (depends how tall your kids are. Suits up to maybe 12-14 max.
- toilet paper.
- 14 cans of food
- 1 small water bottle
- 1 10L 2.5gal jug of water.
- fuel stove
- matches
- can opener
- first aid kit
- radio / torch (battery / solar / windup combo).
I also have a 44gal drum, if you are thinking of getting something, but not sure if it will fit, request something. maybe I can try it for you.
