Anyone tried a AR/.22lr conversion kit?

In the 1980s I had one of the M261 conversion units which was made to drop into the M16. It was sufficient for training on indoor ranges, but not target-accurate. Outdoors at 100 yards typical dispersion firing CCI Standard Velocity ammo in the governmen t whitebox pack was similar to what you would expect firing M193 Ball in worn-out M16A1 training command guns in use at the time.

The M261 unit had to be kept clean and well lubricated with LSA to be reliable. It was also necessary to use carbureator cleaner and pipe cleaners on the gas tube and to blow the gas tube out after each use with compressed air, otherwise accumulated fouling would cause malfunctions when the rifle was fired with Ball ammo.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
