A question about becoming King of England

I'm not thinking of doing this... but it's a question I don't know the answer to.

It seems different dynasty's are brought into political picture when the old guard is removed. In a modern era what would be involved in that?

Could simply killing the known royalty and proclaiming such a killing lead to that person who did the killings becoming the king of the land?

If not what would it take to produce a new dynasty in modern times.
