Immigration & related problems

I just finished listening to a very recent TED-X talk on immigration. I was startled to learn that 49% of Yakima, Washington, was Latino but still no Latinos were in city government. Since then a very few were elected. The speaker, an India born immigrant, having taken 16 years to attain citizenship, learned on her journey that it should not matter the religion, culture, or color of one's skin, but it does. This is mostly a "white" country and many want it to stay that way. And most voters seem to want an all white federal government.

I recently read in a High Country News about the racism in Portland. Oregon, where property laws haven't changed since the 1800's, and Oregon property ownership is for "whites" only.

One of the big divisions in this country has to do with races. Or religion. If you are non-Mormon you will have a hard time getting certain types of employment in Utah or SE Idaho. And there are several states that have no Blacks in them.

And many in our country use name calling to put down who we think is an immigrant. There's "kikes" and " waps" and "degos" and "Chickenoes", and "******s" and "Japs". And many still joke about an only good Indian is a dead one. Why can't we all just be Americans? Let's forget this all white culture.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
