The old slippery slope/domino theory

The VA is already doing this, albeit sneakily and on a small/limited scale...there are some medications that are used for non-psych conditions/illness, but the VA formulary is designating them as for patients having been diagnosed with depression, schizophrenia, etc. So if a patient needs the medication, the vet will have to allow the mental illness diagnosis to get the medication via the VA. Then the VA notifies the mental health court and the vet is sometimes stripped of his/her firearms.

For the last however many years, the VA has been asking female vets about domestic violence, firearms in the home, firearms ownership, having a safe place, sexual assault, sexual trauma, sexual harassment, suicide, suicidal ideation, depression, etc. If one vet is married to another vet, one of them answering anything in the affirmative can get the ball rolling, even though nothing has been proven or even alleged anywhere else, and even if the vet was pushed into saying something that wasn't intended as it ended up getting reported by a medical/admin clerk trying to get the numbers up to justify the program or his/her job. When they asked me this every time I went to the VA, I got really tired of it and finally asked if they were asking the male vets the intrusive questions and I was told "No." WTF?!!! BTW, the people asking the questions were not professionals with whom a vet would have a confidential communication type relationship, this wasn't disclosed, talking to someone with whom confidentiality wasn't offered, and what was going to be done with the information wasn't disclosed.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
