Katrina Cottages?

Saw claims Katrina cottages/kits are sturdy and cheap to build. Anyone have any experience with them? Are they OK for cold places like Minnesota, and/or are there some recommendations for cold weather modifications? How do they compare with building a "regular" small (600-824 sq ft) house plan?

I'd rather build something inexpensive so I can pay it off a lot faster...
