2nd Amendment Clarification

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

I've got a lot of questions.

Who is the well regulated militia? The People? The Army? (It'd make sense, the military back in the day wasn't so much a modern force as it was a "militia")

If the answer is "The People", does that mean by being born in the US and being a citizen all my life, I'm automatically a militiaman? Or does the "Well regulated Militia" part mean the militia needs to be on government sanction and on government payroll? Or does that mean if I grab ten of my buddies (Just an example), train, and self-proclaim ourselves to be a militia, then that we are the mentioned well regulated militia?

What is the meaning of "well regulated"? Who determines whether it is well enough regulated or not? It sounds to me like "well regulated" implies the government needs knowledge/access to the aforementioned militia.

How about the "Necessary to the security of a free state" part? It seems to me that they only want this well-regulated militia to only defend the US from outside threats, not from the government itself, should it become necessary.

I apologize for the amount of questions on this one post, but hell, I'm still young, and I believe it necessary that, in order to be able to defend the constitution effectively both politically and physically, I'll need to know as much about it as I possibly can. Any sort of clarification on anything I asked above would be helpful, thanks.

EDIT: Any militiamen here that could help me out from their personal experiences with questions like this?

Let's block ads! (Why?)
