My life's mission is to end human suffering to the greatest extent possible, most nobably by using technology that changes people's lives.
Yeah I'm a brand spanking newbie to survivalism and I gotta tell ya the truth of my physicality is pretty sad. Mentally I have a lot to offer for you, but I'm so fat I have become totally dependent on this nursing home where I stay. If we had a natural disaster I'd likely be one of the first to go. I intend to change all that beginning now!
I'll leave that sentiment to what it is and switch gears to my professional (or some might say UNprofessional) offerings to the world. These are in the areas of water and prosthetics. Unrelated? Yes! So I'll dismiss the prosthetic topic by simply saying that I volunteer for e-NABLE. A quick web search on "e-NABLE" will take you here: e-NABLE where you can read all about that!
Next about the water. In early September of 2014, I felt an urge to create something meaningful, something vital, something significant. I looked up as if to ask the Lord in prayer for creativity as I often do and this time there was an answer: the 2 Liter water purifier. As things played out, this was to become more of a teaching tool (we think) than an actual survival technique per se, and that's ok. Teaching counts. It also led to my involvement with a small startup non-profit company called elequa, and I'll get to that in a jiffy.
The 2 liter water purifier is so simple yet so many have trouble grasping it at first. For explanation I refer you to two links, both from 3D printer repositories.
Original Design with media links
New Design Untested
So those links explain it all, if you're not inclined to follow links - just know that the technique involves cutting a 2 Liter bottle in half and putting a specially shaped disc in between the two halves so as to create a solar distillation device out of the bottle. You put the dirty watre in the bottom, assemble the unit, and place it in the sun to evaporate and collect water droplets. It's that simple.
The main critique on this thing is yield. Yield is a major issue, it's untested at this point and you can't really see great productivity from such a device so I've come to regard it as a teaching tool. What's nice also is that the 3D printer is just one way to create the separator - all manner of construction techniques may be employed, from wood lathes to folding palm fronds, and for this reason the device is reduced to a concept. A concept has power because it can fly across the internet around the world like wildfire - faster actually. And I hereby give you freedom to do just that!
I'm all about open source, and that ties into the next (and last) topic which is elequa. That's the name of the company that I work for (for free, volunteering, well nearly free - i get to keep supplies for my own use). elequa is all about water purification, at the moment using a coagulation technique that involves applying electricity to water.
As it turns out, if you take impure water (we use a very light solution of acrylic paint, just barely opaque, for demonstration purposes) and apply nearly any electric signal to i using aluminum (and / or iron / steel and other materials) electrodes, you wil see the impurities coagulate. Coagulation means to form into clumps and that's exactly what happens here. A liter of water can be clarified in 20 minutes at 24 volts pulsed DC, or in just a few minutes with buffered mains power. Also low voltages more typically associated with solar cells and batteries will work albeit more slowly.
The idea here is that the coagulated impurities, which rise to the surface then fall to the bottom of the tank (we use Mason jars) are more easily filtered in a later step of filtering because they are clumped into mushy chunks. There, that's a technical term for ya, mushy chunks, lol.
So that's what I do in a nutshell. I'm here to spread the word, to as for people to join in on our translucent non-profit effort, and to also make mention of the water purifiers that I design. We are looking for volunteers to help out for sure, but that's not the main focus at this time - right now I'm just hoping to raise awareness, to let people know there's a new kid on the block and he intends to use his God-given talents to change the world for the better!
