More effective than a firearm??? LASER!

So assuming SHTF and gangs are roaming around the countryside..

That could permanently blind you from a mile (or more) away! And if one were to change the wavelength of the lasers to something the human eye couldn't see, it could blind marauders and they'd never even know what happened or why.
