Walmart checking ID of ammo purchasers

Was in Walmart tonight and they had the American Eagle .223 in 100 round boxes, so I bought a box.
I get to the counter and the guy told me he needed my license. I'm clearly over the legal age, so I asked him why. He said there's a new rule that states everyone buying ammo must show ID. I asked what they did with it, do they enter my name, do they scan it like I see done sometimes when someone who looks underage buys tobacco or liquor? He said no, all he has to do is enter my DOB.
He was a nice guy, I gave it to him and he did just that, looked at the ID, typed in my DOB, and handed it back.
He said they do not scan it, not at this time anyway, but he was told it would be required in the future.

Has anyone else heard of this? Seems if they will be scanning them in the future maybe this step is just to get the workers in the practice of asking for ID from the customer.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
