We arrived in the area about 7:30 and began shooting paper targets. Not long after, 5 vehicles drive in and began to set up about 150 yards away. About 8 marines began to retrieve glass bottles from the bed of a pickup and stage them, about 400 bottles, in a nice, clean parking / camping area. My friend went over to tell them of the range rule of 'No Glass' and they just ignored what he was saying. These guys weren't kids. They appeared to be around 30 years old. My friend is a High Patrol Officer and he had previously written a ticket to one of the guys. I took a camera out of my truck and began taking pictures (vehicles, license plates, glass Bottles, Marines) with a zoom lens. One tall jackass began posing by dancing and flipping "Double Eagles".....as if to say "I dare you to do something about it". They totally destroyed a nice area with all the broken glass.
That evening, another couple came over for dinner. The guy retired from the Marine Corp a few years ago. He was a high ranking officer on the base and he still has enough clout to have their balls smashed. I told him of the incident. I said I don't want to be a rat-bastard and bring bad trouble down on the guys. It just ****es me off that they ruined a good piece of land. He said..."these guys need to be jammed up or they'll do it again". He offered to take me over to the base to talk with the Provost Marshall, but I declined as I really don't want to cause trouble for the guys.
On the other hand I'd like to go the Provost Marshall just to show the *** hole Marine who flipped me "Double Eagles", exactly what I CAN do about it.
I know I won't do anything....I'm just venting, but I began to wonder how others would feel about the situation. The action of these Marines is really no different than seeing a vehicle on the highway launching a huge bag of trash all over the highway.
What would you do....anything? How would you feel about it?
