Ideas for wood cutting tool

1. A "ax" or "hatchet" with with a 8 sided head. You bring it down but instead of a single blade you have 8 each one differing at a 45 degree angle, so instead of two pieces of wood, you have 8, 8 times the work at the same rate.

2. Basically the same kind of device as above, only it is stand alone, not on a handle, blades facing skywards. You take your piece wood place in the middle where all the blades come together and then just hit with a sledgehammer, same effect, different method of use.

My questions are the following.

1. Does a product like this exist? I have searched, found NOTHING.

2. Any reason why this would NOT work?
