Tap and die question

You will need the chart, although some taps have the correct drill size also stamped on them. The old harbor freight letter/number and decimal drill 101 bit index of titanium nitride kit was fairly good. Use at least one size bit smaller than the chart calls for first because they sometimes cut larger holes.

If you plan to many then buy a good brand, cheap crappy stuff will not last and will likely ruin your chances at a good repair. Standard kits don't have gun screws sizes.

Always use a good lube for tapping. Very important to keep the tap perpendicular to the hole when starting. When the tap starts to feel hard to turn back the tap out a turn or so to break the chips then go forward a turn or so rinse/repeat. Sometimes you need to back it all the way out - clean the tap and the hole, re lube and continue.

After starting a blind hole, you might need to finish it with a bottoming tap.

Ask someone that is experienced to show you the ropes on some scrap.
