Any one into spears?

I think they are bad to the bone. In the good old days of up close and personal warfare they reigned as the grunt weapon. They can keep the enemy well out of arms length and if you are feeling lucky be thrown for the kill. That throw is a missile like an arrow that doesn't spin end over end like a knife. Ever thrown a javelin? Ah the fun old memories just flow back. If one is feeling in a less than lethal mood a spear is also a big damn stick you would wallop with. In another thread I started many expounded the virtues of a big stick over a knife. A spear is both!! Whats not to like?

Calling all spear chunkers!!

Any survivalist tips on spears would be appreciated. Things like length and weight of a shaft versus the length and weight of the point etc.
