Starting a stockpile

We can't answer precisely for you because we don't know your preferences, number of people in your family, how much you plan to spend, etc. But we can give advice until you're blue in the face. This topic has been covered in a thousand previous threads because it's a popular one, and you can access them with the search feature.

My advice is to write down a list of meals that can be made with shelf stable ingredients (taste test on your family first to make sure they will eat them). Add up how many times in that 3 months you will need them. Add all the ingredients together, then go buy that, a little at a time or all at once as you can afford.

Make at least one of these meals once a week to accustom yourselves to it and to rotate. Replace the ingredients used within the month so you don't just use it up and have no storage at the end of the year.

Most especially if you live in a dry area start first with water. All the macaroni in the world wont benefit you if you can't cook it and die of thirst.
