I don't want to discuss EMP, itself. There's too many unknowns, including whether or not it's really going to end modern life as we know it. Besides, it's been beat to death.
Let's just assume that it will be destructive enough to destroy any modern FET based electronics, ignition modules included.
The bigger question that I'd like to raise is, do you really want to have the only functioning vehicle in a 5 mile radius?
I've given it some thought and concluded that my diesel Benz is probably a long term liability more so than an asset. The only thing electronic is the clock, aftermarket stereo and, to some extent, the voltage regulator. But once it's running even the VR is an afterthought, at least during daylight hours when lights aren't needed. It's safe to assume that it will be functional after an EMP event. I keep enough critical parts, fluids, and fuel on hand that it would last me a great while.
However, how could I hang on to when every swinging **** in my vicinity knows that I have it? Even if my neighbors didn't covet it, don't you think the local government might want to confiscate it to continue policing or for other basic services?
I can see using it to immediately bug out before the powers that be get organized or those unprepared realize its value. But what about beyond that? EMP proof farm tractors and heavy equipment would at least be useful at your BIL/BOL. But passenger vehicles in a time when everyone is walking/biking/horsebacking?
Rather than focus on hanging on to what's rightfully mine in ordinary times, I'm wondering if, instead, it might be more prudent to work out a deal with the local government: my Benz for more food/security/privileges or any thing else that I might need. Being proactive and approaching them early might get me something in return. Trying to hold onto for too long after the event might leave me holding an empty key ring, if I'm even that lucky.

Do I really want an EMP resistant bug out vehicle?
