Help with Grundig FR 200

Hi folks, I'm having issues with a Grundig FR 200 shortwave unit I bought recently. The dynamo for charging appears to be broken, but I don't have instructions so I want to make sure it's not user error.

Do you set it to "dynamo" before cranking or afterwards to use the battery? Anybody own one that can tell me exactly how you get the dynamo to charge?
