Question about an old 22 rifle

A friend has given me an old remmington sportsmaster 22 rifle. We think it was made in the 40s. It's in decent shape but needs to be cleaned up.

My question is would i be able to shoot modern ammo through that old of a rifle? Or should it be used only with the slower 1100fps ammo? I just don't have much knowledge with these old firearms.
