It's a jungle out there...We sure are having some challenges with our little urban farm experiment.
The city allows up to 12 fowl, so we started with 12 chickens... now that number is cut in half because of coon raids.
Good layers too, as the local rats seem to have noticed. They were getting to some of the eggs first and having a nice lunch.
So, we replaced our 6 dead chickens with 5 duck chicks and one goose chick.
Three days ago, a dang HAWK dropped out of the sky and took the little goose.
Took a duckling yesterday too... apparently they know now where to find an easy meal.
We started caging up the little chicks to protect them... and yet again we hear a ruckus outside: the hawk has pulled away part of our cage, and was INSIDE the cage attacking another duckling. We now have the hawk locked in the cage.
It's a jungle out there... even in the city.
