Im wanting something a bit different. Its a cache for maybe some copies of documents, (serial numbers and copies of reciepts for insurance purposes) backup of family photos on cd's etc. I could use it to store a number of emergency ration bars as well.
Im not preparing for end of the world, just mitigating risks of day to day living.
Im thinking of making a shed base, (so a shed will hide everything, and or prevent neighbours from seeing what I am doing there). Shed base would be made using 600 x 600 x 50mm concrete slabs, but the middle slab might have a 'thin' waterproof steel container sunk down, with concrete around it. the internel box dimensions might need to be 500 x 500 (giving the concrete slab a 50mm ridge to sit on all the way around). I guess it should be 500mm deep for good measure.
This means I need to manually prise up and lift a 30kg slab of concrete anytime I want access to the cache. Its a better option then burying in the dirt, and as long as the slab doesnt get chipped / damaged, it should be able to access without leaving any tell tale signs.
Im wondering if anyone has done something like this? Im struggling to find what I would need. I have considered sinking a safe down, at least this guarantees it wont leak, but I dont think I need a high level of security for what I am planning to store there and a safe, with internal storage of 500 x 500 x 500 is overwhealming.
Water running into the box is a possibility, so anything going in would be inside another waterproof container.
I did find one local company doing fireproof storage safes. At about approx $10k aud installed, its not a viable option.
any advice would be appreciated.
