Six Historical Egg Preservation Techniques

I'm not sure if you can still find it, but years ago Mother Earth News did a nine month study on various egg storage techniques. They used a couple thousand eggs total, and did proper laboratory analysis of bacterial load to say if the eggs were still "good".

To make a very long story short the consensus was Kept moderately cool (they used a basement), in a closed container that doesn't allow much air exchange (they used Tupperware), more than 60% of unwashed eggs were still good at 9 months old (they ended the study at that point, so we don't know how much longer they would have gone).

Every other method except refrigeration fell well short of this result.
