Supposedly they transplant much better, and it is easy to start with small blocks then add them to larger blocks as the plants grow. You take wet seed starting mix and press it into blocks (vs buying seed cells or peat plugs). DIYers use cans, or any preferred little shape to make blocks or you can buy kits to press out a few blocks at a time.
