Black History

Default Black History

I see on the news all the time where they are doing all of these things for Black history month. We get most of our news from Chicago so there are a lot of schools that spend a lot of time concentrating on Black history.
Years ago I started into an apprenticeship program and one of the first classes that we had to take was just a review of basic math. What you would learn in 6-8th grades. At the end of the course we had a test to see how much we were able to comprehend.
One young black guy, fresh out of high school, flunked out and so they were dismissing him from the program. He started saying that they had discriminated against him and that the class should have been adjusted for his ability.
I couldn't believe that the schools he had attended had told him that he had an education. It was bad then and from what I have seen it is worse since then.
I can understand that the schools want to instill a sense of pride into the students no matter what race they come from but there should be a limit to the time that they spend on history and maybe more time spent on the skills needed to make a living.
Maybe teach them some things that might really make their lives easier. Things that are required when you go out into the real world.
