Just saw this comment in one of MTShawn's posts and thought I would offer some feedback as I have found it helpful when other give feedback to me.
"Our numbers have spiked on the forum. There are new people and returning people and the number of lurkers went through the roof. Most are gleaning solid information and this is good. I would hope more would sign up."
I usually lurk on a forum unless I have something to offer. My first post here was about motorcycling and because I have done this for a while I was able to offer some info I thought would be useful to others.
People not signing up isn't because the forum isn't good. It is because they can get what they need without doing so. I think (no experience with forum ownership) that more members is good for a forum but from comments on other forums I don't know if anyone has ever come up with a good way to increase member numbers.
Possibly 'lurker' is seen as a negative term too. Maybe 'guests' instead. Dunno.
Separately, I'm not sure what advantages a VIP membership gives. It may be explained somewhere but I haven't seen anything. Maybe a better understanding of what it is would help with VIP numbers. Not sure.
