We are in very convoluted and in tough times. I am not going to talk about Covid-19 and I am not going to talk about the economy or the "Murder Hornets"
I want to talk about something else. And I am not even sure I want to talk at all. But, I believe this needs to be said.
Our numbers have spiked on the forum. There are new people and returning people and the number of lurkers went through the roof. Most are gleaning solid information and this is good. I would hope more would sign up. But, many of you are hard to get along with. You are seasoned and hard. You don't like people and like to hang with like minded folks. I know if I was a new person, I would fear most of you, because a noob question is destroyed before it can be addressed. This is not on purpose, I know most of you and I know the conundrum of answering the same question every day. I also know that people should read the Stickies, but, some that join us don't know how forums work. TBH many of those that want to prep are simple people and are not up to date on tech, they just want information. It is easier to link them than to admonish. We were all new at some point.
Now the reason for this post...People come here and see infighting among long time members and it prevents them from posting. Preppers are a different breed and we are cold in general. But, when an emergent threat is upon us, we need to slow down and think of people coming here for information.
Many have said that they want to leave the boards. Because of trolls or those with contrary positions. They say they are tired of arguing and tired of virgin preppers not knowing how to search an antiquated forum format.
No one forces you to argue and nothing prevents you from being nice in helping a newbie.
I guess, I just wanted to say how important our long time experienced people are and would ask that you consider who's lives you are changing.
Because what you contribute is worth a hell of a lot more than the bits and bytes you are typing. Like this virus where an asymptomatic person can spread without knowing it. There are hundreds of people reading these threads. There is a meek young Man somewhere that is prepping because of what you share. There is a Housewife with 5 kids that now knows how to make themselves safer. Times this by 1000. Just one life saved and one more prepper, is worth dealing with the contrarians. Ignore the trolls and those you disagree with.
Think about the lives changed because you share knowledge, experience and even opinions. There is no need to preach to the Choir. The experienced talk details and semantics and they argue. It is the broad scope of the many posts here that change so many silent people. I know it is not your job to convince anyone of anything...
As for me, I will continue to share here, because the more people that prep is one less that will scream for mine when it gets bad. One more person that takes threats seriously is a win.
I don't want to shoot a raider or turn away the desperate but, I damn sure will. I won't have to, if my neighbors are prepping. And the silent ones may be the best allies when it goes south.
Just my perspective.
I would quote Jerry D Young but, he left because of the infighting from long time members. This is not my opinion, it is fact.
To everyone.
