Feeling Defeated

Spent the entirety of my Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (literally sunrise to sunset) as well as 4 hours after work on Monday creating a garden spot for my wife and I. She wanted to try the "Back to Eden" gardening method, which essentially means laying down a layer of cardboard or newspaper to smother the existing grass, adding a few inches of compost, then a few more inches of wood chips or mulch on top of that (link at end). I was pretty excited about it, so I made a few trips to the recycling center and got a couple truckloads of cardboard to use. Spent a whole evening getting tape and labels off of it so it was just plain cardboard that would degrade fast.

Laid it out in our garden spot, shoveled composted manure out of a giant pile, hand sorted out all the big rocks, wheelbarrowed it uphill a good ways to the garden spot, and spread it with a hoe and rake. Got about 800 square feet done and it looked great- felt really proud of it.

Had mulch delivered today, and despite my specific instruction to NOT drive in the pasture or near the garden, the guy drove all over the garden spot and pasture.... really tore it all to hell. Now I've got to put another 12+ hours into it just to get the garden fixed before I can spread the mulch. Not to mention, his truck made a LOT of 12" or deeper ruts all in my pasture and the path to the garden, so using a wheelbarrow is going to be close to impossible. I don't even know how to fix that. So mad, my blood is boiling!!! All that work and now I have to re-do so much of it, and a lot of nice grass is ruined as well as the only easy walking path to the garden (everything else is a VERY steep hill).

Really makes me feel like giving up.
