This is why I hate having people work in my house that i don't know.

In this case I'd ask. If he says no, well it's just a pair of pliers and you really have no proof. I would however contact the company and report it if he doesn't voluntarily give them up.

Another trick for workers is to ask to use the bathroom, then look for prescription drugs to steal.
