Microsoft Updates

A couple of questions. Im running windows 8.1 and at the logon screen, at the bottom right corner, there is a notification that I have updates and to go to settings (control panel) to install them. The problem is, there are no updates in the update que. If I check for updates there are none available. I'm thinking a notification flag s stuck. Anyone know how to clear the notification or what it's about?

Also, with regard to updates, if I look at the last update message in the control panel, is says the last updates were yesterday and "failed". If I go to update history, it shows nothing in the history log about it. I suspect it's one of those beind the scenes W10 updates, but not sure. Has anyone seen this before?
