Grew onions from seed last year, three of them finished really small so I used them as sets this year. Two of the three have doubled. I'm just curious, when this happens is it possible to separate them without killing one or both? If it can be done, at what stage should they be separated? Right now they are in the bulbing period, and while the twin bulbs are touching they don't look like they are actually growing into each other yet, but then they are still pretty small (less than golf ball size but bigger than a standard super ball or jacks ball.)
