Lot of recent threads about people building sheds and homes and shelters in areas without code enforcement
I don't want to hijack/derail/clutter those threads.I find them interesting and always learn something. I'm curious about some type of insurance being an issue. Just curious how this comes into play, and if they are even insurable? |
but never had a problem insuring a structure
there are different levels of insurance with various rates,
similar to insuring an older house, just because it was built with permits and up to code 40-50 years ago, doesnt mean its up to modern codes,
insurance may send an inspector to inspect a property for the obvious visible hazards,
but they are not ripping out walls to make sure electrical has protective plates, passthroughs are centered, used proper gauge, etc.
when i bought my last house there were numerous issues that were not up to code, outdated electrical panel, propane tanks too close to AC unit,
lack of GFI, outlets near windows and water lines, etc
none of it was an issue with insurance,
Building without code-insurance?
