First time with mylar... Storing oatmeal

Hey guys...

Well I ordered my first kit (50 1gal bags/50 - 300cc OAs) from discountmylarbags (best prices I found and even better when I used the site discount).

Anyways... I'm picky about oatmeal... not sure why but I am. Found that I can get 10# boxes of quaker oatmeal from Jet.com for ~8.50 a box. Considering the 2.5# tubes at chinamart run ~$4... I figured why not. We ordered 30# to start (already have 20# in the pantry).

Is it really as simple as fill the bag..... add OA... push out the air and seal with a straight iron?

We'll be storing the gallon bags in sealed food grade 5 gallon buckets (wife gets them free from work used once). May store them in our shelter.

Will humidity/moisture from being underground be an issue sealed in a bucket and sealed in mylar? The temp will be cooler for sure. We are just quickly running out of space in the pantry and the root cellar/storm shelter is nearly complete.

Anyways... thanks for any input/advice.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
