From my perspective, self defense and martial arts are part of my prepping. I believe it is very important. Also to be in great shape is very important. Multiple example could be listed but in a SHTF scenario, people could start acting up and try to assault you for your property and way more. In a day to day scenario, you could be involved in a robbery, someone attacking you, attacking someone else that you could defend, members of you're family, etc.
I have been practicing Traditional Jiu-jitsu for a long time now. I find it very useful and well rounded. It teaches some wrist locks, striking throws, kicking,chokes,shoulder locks. It also shows how to counter all of the above. The thing about jiujitsu that I love is that you can control an individual if you want without wasting energy and hurting them in an extreme way.
This brings me to Brazilian Jiu jitsu. I have been training for along time also. I find this very useful. Do not confuse with MMA and UFC sport. This martial art is for ground fighting and control. You can control someone on the ground and defend yourself with this art. This is GREAT for weaker person because it shows you how to use leverage without using all of you're strength in 15 seconds and gaz out. I don't recommend for someone to go on the ground in a fight for numerous reason but, 95% of fights ends up on the ground. It's always good to learn .
An other martial art is Krav Maga. This is a very well rounded martial art that was developed by the Isreal Army. It is meant to injure, fight dirty, and use weapons if you have them. This martial art is meant to WIN, whatever the cost may be, which in a SHTF scenario or if someone would attack me, I would use and fight dirty. It also provides a variety of defense tactics agaisnt knife attacks. How to disarm an arm individual pointing a gun to you're head, chest, etc.
Again this is just my opinion. What do you guys think?
