New kind of meat hash

Most of us know about Hormel's corned beef hash. And that they came out with a roast beef hash not that long ago. They even tried pushing a low salt corned beef recently too. But I saw something completely new the other day and had to try it.

Yep, a pork version. It actually tastes pretty good as compared the corned beef. It's definitely the second best of the bunch.

Seems that corned and roast attract different folks. Personally I can just barely taste the difference between those two. I really wanted the roast version to taste better than corned but because I like roast beef over corned beef in general but they kind of dropped the ball, imo. Roast should have been beefier tasting but it really isn't. But I know from reading here that each one has its supporters. And you won't really appreciate the other.

So with one of the beef versions being favored by folks the pork sausage should be different and tasty enough to be your #2 choice instead of the other beef you don't favor. You may even like the sausage best. It does give that classic breakfast sausage taste.

Some minor quibbles though. As pork it should be cheaper but it isn't. It also seems wetter from the can, both fat and water. Not a lot more, but for folks trying to crisp it in the pan it's harder than the beef versions.

No, I haven't tried the low salt CB version. Folks that need the low salt version clearly eat far too many canned entrees. Try a salad more often instead of all this canned meat you eat.

Personally, I don't think the brand can support more than two varieties ultimately. It's not like stores offer these canned meat products shelf frontage like they do for soups or vegetables. It's typically a 4 foot section. I don't think 4 flavors will move enough product each. I figure the low salt will die first. Then I suspect one of the beef versions will go because they are too close in taste. I'm guessing corned beef and sausage will make it in the long run because the sausage is definitely different from the beef versions and does taste real good.

Go try a can if you like canned hash. I don't eat hardly any canned food, especially canned meat, but hash is protein, fats, and carbs all at once and can easily be doctored up to be better than just edible. Before, I had just canned tuna, sardines, canned chicken, canned mushrooms, and CB hash as the entirety of my LTS factory can food. The rest being mylar or home canned. I'll be adding one more hash to those few factory canned foods in my storage room now.
