Do the wealthy pay their fair-share in taxes?

This has been a constant complaint from Democrats for decades. The wealthy are NOT paying their fair share of the tax burden and the poor suffer as a result.

Rarely if ever do democrats put up numbers to prove their allegations but rather rely on the emotional side of this issue to stir up the base and cause envy within our population. It's old trick that worked across Europe and the world to bring in Socialist and Communist into power. It's then we see true selfishness and greed of a tiny minority on a scale that boggles the mind as well as the rise of the peasant class.

The numbers, according to the IRS and Pew Research:

-The top 1% of American's wage earners pay 39.5% of all federal income taxes. So the top 1% carry nearly 40% of the tax burden.

-The bottom 50% of wage earners pay just 2.7% of the tax burden.

Can any reasonable person honestly suggest the wealthy aren't paying their fair-share of the tax burden? In fact isn't just the opposite true?

If not, please explain to me how the wealthy don't pay their fair-share?
