Bypass humidifiers are usually fine for most homes but I like the 700, it also has a sensor to the outside to turn off the humidifier when outside temps reaches 55 IIRC. Most will only get you up to 45% humidity. Just make sure you take out the water panel at the end of the season, lots of people leave them in and they get MOLDY and spread it all summer long. The inline screen can be a pain if you have deposits but the orifice will clog easily without it. I have extra valves and screens on hand.
I will not go without a whole house humidifier if I can help it.
For around $150 dollars(bypass)+ installation parts like 1/4" water shut off valve, 1/4" water line, drain line you can find out for yourself if you can install it yourself.
You do need to keep an eye on the window moisture and adjust accordingly.
