How to acquire credit if you have none?

I have no credit score, at least none that any of those check your credit score places can find.

This I'm sure this is a result of living my life as under the radar as I could when it comes to money, paper work, etc. Always cashed my checks at wallmart, paid cash to load up pre-paid debt cards....etc. Pretty much avoided having anything in my name on anyone's computer if I could....and of course, I have no debts and never have had much...although I did have a few thousand in medical bills once that I paid off, and a car loan...once....but that is about it.

As you can guess....this means I can't get a credit card. This doesn't bother me much...but there are a couple places where I spend a lot of money where the little 2% cash back could actually be worth it.

So hypothetically, if you've made it to middle age without acquiring a credit score....how would you start trying to create one?
