NASA Declares Mars Rover "Opportunity" Mission Ended

Today, NASA officially declared the Mars rover "Opportunity" to be lost, and thus the mission ended.

The rover was designed to last only 90 days on Mars, but it ended up working for 14.5 years. It landed in January 2004 and I remember reading the updates online that evening as it went through its landing sequence and reported that it had safely arrived on Mars.
