"Mythbusting: The Carrington Event and Solar Cycle of Doom"

Integrated Skills Group puts out some pretty good articles. This one deals with EMP's in various forms. I cannot say everything is accurate but the author has demonstrated in my view that he puts forth articles as factually-based as possible.

From the article:
"The Carrington Event inspired William Forstchen to write "One Second After", a pretty cringy apocalypse tale that got Newt Gingrich to petition the House with warnings about EMP. Based largely on the effects of a natural Carrington Event, the novel helped solidify EMP as the doomsday disaster they'd all been waiting for."

The author points to 37 vehicles with model years ranging from 1986 through 2002 being tested with an EMP simulation laboratory with the being the engines stalled and had to be restarted. Some had blinking dashboard lights, etc but nothing was a big issue.

I do wonder about vehicles in 2020 though, which are much more electronically controlled then they were even in 2002.
